Cayenne pepper belongs to the Capsicum family and its botanical name is Capsicum annuum. It is the red chili pepper that is used to add flavor in food and has high medicinal values. Cayenne contains vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin K, carotenoids and the complete B complexes. It is also a source of organic calcium potassium, manganese and dietary fiber.

The medicinal or health benefits of the Cayenne pepper include:

It is also very effective in relieving diabetic complications like nerve damage and heart disease. It gives temporary relief of pain from psoriasis, herpes zoster, neuralgia, and toothache.

Cayenne pepper improves the effectiveness of other herbs.

Ginger has carminative properties (anti spasmic) and can be used to calm in upset stomach, providing relief for the relief of bloating and gas.

The intake of ginger helps stimulate the secretion of mucus, quieting your cough and soothing any scratchiness I your throat.

Ginger has been proven (in multiple studies) to treat feelings of nausea, particularly in the form of seasickness, morning sickness, motion sickness and as a side effect of chemotherapy.

Ginger contains anti viral, anti toxic, and anti fungal properties, and is used for the prevention of and treatment against the common cold.

Ginger acts as an antihistamine and aids in the treatment of allergies.

Ginger displays anti inflammatory properties and can be used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and various other muscular disorders. The chemical components of the root are instrumental in inhibiting the biosynthesis of prostaglandins which are responsible for causing inflammation. Thus the root has proven to be a highly effective form of treatment, in some cases, even more so than the NSAID’s that are traditionally prescribed.

Ginger contains special enzymes responsible for catalyzing the proteins in your food, thus aiding in digestion and the prevention of cramps. The ancient Greeks used to eat ginger after a large meal in order to ease the digestion process.

Due to its promotion of mucus secretion, ginger protects against the development of ulcers, unwanted holes in the lining of your stomach.

Ginger has proven to help lower your cholesterol levels and prevent the formation of blood clots.

Ginger is often used to settle an upset stomach or treat severe stomach ailments such as dyspepsia or colic. It is frequently used today in 3rd world countries to treat diarrhea.

Turmeric is one of nature’s most powerful healers. The active ingredient in turmeric is curcumin. Tumeric has been used for over 2500 years in India, where it was most likely first used as a dye.

The medicinal properties of this spice have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries. Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties, recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer’s disease.

Here are 20 reasons to add turmeric to your diet:

  1. It is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in disinfecting cuts and burns.
  2. When combined with cauliflower, it has shown to prevent prostate cancer and stop the growth of existing prostate cancer.
  3. Prevented breast cancer from spreading to the lungs in mice.
  4. May prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to commit suicide.
  5. Reduces the risk of childhood leukemia.
  6. Is a natural liver detoxifier.
  7. May prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease by removing amyloyd plaque buildup in the brain.
  8. May prevent metastases from occurring in many different forms of cancer.
  9. It is a potent natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.
  10. Has shown promise in slowing the progression of multiple sclerosis in mice.
  11. Is a natural painkiller and cox-2 inhibitor.
  12. May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management.
  13. Has long been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for depression.
  14. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is a natural treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
  15. Boosts the effects of chemo drug paclitaxel and reduces its side effects.
  16. Promising studies are underway on the effects of turmeric on pancreatic cancer.
  17. Studies are ongoing in the positive effects of turmeric on multiple myeloma.
  18. Has been shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors.
  19. Speeds up wound healing and assists in remodeling of damaged skin.
  20. May help in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

Turmeric can be taken in powder or pill form. It is available in pill form in most health food stores, usually in 250-500mg capsules.

Once you start using turmeric on a regular basis, it’s fun to find new ways to use it in recipes. My favorite way to use it is to add a pinch of it to egg salad. It adds a nice flavor and gives the egg salad a rich yellow hue.

Contraindications: Turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction. Though turmeric is often used by pregnant women, it is important to consult with a doctor before doing so as turmeric can be a uterine stimulant.

Himalayan salt

Table salt may make your overcooked broccoli taste better, but it’s not going to make you live any longer. Way too much water goes into neutralizing the over-processed sodium chloride you’ve been heaping all over your food. To put that into layman’s terms, all that salt has a very good chance of causing joint problems and kidney stones. The Himalayan salt we use controls water levels instead, as well as reducing signs of aging and not giving you kidney stones.

Said to represent longevity, courage and strength. If that’s not a winning three-word description, I don’t know what is. However, just in case abstract symbolism isn’t enough, it also contains essential oils, minerals (including calcium and iron), and vitamins (A, C, E, B-complex). It is high in fiber and antioxidants, which means it’s a blessing to the digestive system while helping protect the body from cancer and degenerative diseases.

Chia seeds

Better than diet milk. One ounce will deliver 18% of your daily calcium value, while curbing your appetite and lowering your caloric intake. If you’ve ever been hopelessly confused because your parents told you that milk makes your bones stronger, and then told you that milk makes you fat, we have a recommendation. Toss in the fact that chia doubles the amount of fiber you receive, and you can ditch the cardboard cereal swimming in skim milk altogether.

Hemp Seeds

If you’re vegetarian, vegan, or just plain wary of over-processed market meat, getting enough protein might be a struggle for you. Hemp seeds are here. They have the ideal ratio for fatty acids, making your immune system more efficient, reducing the effects of many diseases, and lowering your cholesterol and blood pressure. They also contain more protein than most energy bars (goodbye, double chocolate chunk with the consistency of a Tempur-Pedic mattress).

Flax Seeds

Packed with disease-fighting compounds and plenty of fiber, which can prevent heart problems, inflammatory disorders, and certain cancers.

This may come as a surprise to you after all this time, but they also lower your cholesterol, and can be processed and consumed in a variety of fashions.

Goji Berries

These berries are just as cool but not as mysterious as they sound, mostly because we’re about to pull aside the curtain on their mysteries. !

Are you ready for this? Goji berries, also known as wolf berries, help treat kidney and liver disease, cleanse arteries, alleviate allergies and skin problems, and lower blood pressure and cholesterol. On top of all that, they’ll make you live longer. Take that, Strawberry Shortcake.

Dandelion Root

We’re used to making wishes on dandelions, and possibly watching rabbits eat them in nature documentaries. However, we can eat them too, as unappetizing as they might look. During the Great Depression, a family lived off of dandelions for an entire week. Dandelions are rich in vitamins and minerals, and have been used to treat kidney disease, skin disorders and digestive and urinary issues. Bonus: they actually go nicely in a salad.

What makes the Joule Bars different from other bars?

Bottom-line, we are giving you a feeling, not just a flavor.

Longer story:

I can honestly say, with total integrity that I did everything to make sure that anyone who is aligned with making this bar for you understood my mission. Since 2007 I have been manufacturing food that helps to cleanse the gut. I understood even back then how much what we ate impacted the way we feel and ultimately since you are connected to Joulebody, you want to feel good. You want to feel happy. You want to be healthy.

I struggled to make this bar because of the outcome I wanted for you. I wanted to be able to use turmeric, cayenne, fennel, coconut, and plenty of seeds to support not just your body but your mind too. You see if you notice all the bars out there have lot’s of flavors, lot’s of sugar and lot’s of ingredients. Not ours. My mission was to give you a feeling, not a flavor. Yes it needs to taste good and that’s why I got Ben involved. I wanted you to have the nutrients. He wanted you to have the flavor. Together we made it our mission to give you both.

What are the benefits of the ingredients of the Joule Bar?

Bottom-line: the most important ingredients have science to support its benefits. All benefit your body, all benefit your mind.

Imagine this, I worked with an amazing Swedish baker to take my Joulebody Cleanse mixture (chia, hemp, flax, pumpkin, sunflower seeds, turmeric, cayenne, Himalayan salt, fennel and dandelion) and put it into a bar. It had to be gluten-free, vegan and nut-free to start.

He made the most awesome bar. He added buckwheat flour and organic cane sugar. It tasted like dessert. Well as I became more educated I learned sugar was the epitome of disease. It was one of the main reasons we had inflammation in our body. And that is why it took me this long to create.

I made sure that the ingredients we used fought inflammation. I made sure every ingredient had science to back its benefits. I do love food. I love French fries and oysters. I love a good, crisp salad with wholesome fats and dressings, but I don’t always have the time to make this happen. And I also know that some of it are indulgence and may not necessarily be beneficial to supporting a healthier lifestyle.

How much protein does each bar contain?

Every bar is high in plant-based proteins that are easy to digest.

Are Joule Bars Vegan?

Yes! I believe we have plenty of opportunity to have animal products. This bar is not that. This is about doing something for you and the environment. It’s about feeling connected to the earth.

Do Joule Bars contain GMOs (genetically modified organisms)?

At Joulebody, we are committed to quality, food safety and love of the world. We require documentation from our suppliers to ensure all of our ingredients are non GMO. We have policies in place to ensure we are sourcing the highest quality ingredients in a responsible and sustainable manner. If you have further questions, please contact us at

Do Joule Bars contain allergens?

Yes. It is made in a facility that has wheat, nuts and coconut. Allergens vary by flavor, so always check the nutritional facts before eating a Joule bar and consult your doctor if you have questions.

NOTE: Our bars are manufactured in a facility that also processes eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, milk, soy, and wheat.

Why should I order a subscription?

Bottom-line: We have the best intentions of planning our meals. The reality, life gets in the way and we don’t always do it. This bar is for those moments.

I have been a health coach for over 15 years. I know the pains of living a healthy lifestyle. We intend on making our meals. We intend on making healthier choices, but life gets in the way at times and we can’t, or we don’t.

Yes you can take a Curcumin supplement. Heck there are some great ones out there, but it’s not the same. By eating your essentials ingredients and super-foods you are making it bioavailable. It’s like the difference between drinking a cup of coffee and taking a caffeine pill. You know you’re getting a cup of coffee because it comes from a plant, but a caffeine pill isn’t nearly as bioavailable as if you’re drinking the coffee. Your body actually has the chance to digest it and it knows how to do that, allowing it to sort the chemicals out and get those ingredients to do their thing.

Keeping a routine helps you to create a mindset. You won’t have to think what should I eat. You will already have it there. And because of it’s extremely low natural sugar content and high plant based protein, you will feel amazing!

How much caffeine does the Cacao Coffee bar contain?

90 mg of caffeine–that’s no more than a sip of coffee. We use coffee for flavor, not as a boost, so this bar won’t replace your morning cup, which typically contains between 95-200 mg of caffeine.
